Metal art has developed as a branch of Latvian applied art during a long period of time and has a rich tradition. The skills of metal forging, heat treatment and forging together of different parts were acquired already around the 3rd century A.D., by making tools and weapons. By the 13th century A.D. the metal working skills were developed to a significant level. Despite the fact that Latvia has endured centuries of aggression, war and occupation, the tradition of metal forging has and will be preserved. Both ancient traditions and modern day technologies are applied in the process of forging. Nowadays, metal art is characterized by decorative, fluid forms, as well as works with a tendency towards design – constructions with deliberative functionality. One can only praise the skill of the blacksmiths and their continuing search for new structural solutions and forms. Let us honour, develop and perfect the tradition of metal forging!

Yours truly - Osvalds,Kaspars
